Nokia 3310 – Back To The Future

The original Nokia 3310 was one of the most popular phones ever made, selling 126 million units worldwide. So, when Nokia announced that they would be releasing an updated version, expectation was high.

This new Nokia 3310 comes in at just under £70, which is pretty expensive for a low end feature phone, but it is priced to sell on its illustrious past, rather than making any attempt to be competitive with similar feature phones.

Lightweight and plenty of apps

So, what do you get for your £70? Firstly, there is no doubt that it is paying homage to its predecessor in the looks and design front. It is very light (just under 80g) and comes with a 2.4” low resolution screen.

It runs the Nokia Series 30+ OS that comes with a variety of apps including contacts, photos, Internet, music player, weather, radio, calendar, calculator, clock and messaging. It also has Snake – everyone’s favourite Nokia app, as well as a few other basic games.

Camera And A Bigger Battery Than The Original

The Nokia 3310 has a 2MP camera, which is OK for basic shots, but don’t except the quality to be high. Also, there is no Wi-Fi, so if you are planning on using the Internet, you will need to do so through the data connection (there are 3G and 4G variants available).

Good news on the battery front is that the Nokia 3310 comes with a removable 1200 mAh one. This gives you a standby time of 27 days and a talk time of 6 ½ hours for the 3G model (24 days and 8 hours for the 4G version). This charges up using a standard micro USB cable.

Looks Cool

So, should you buy it? It is definitely worth considering if you are looking for a second phone you can take away with you to an event where you don’t want to risk your expensive smartphone. It looks cool as well, compared to most other feature phones around.

But to be honest, if you are just interested in a basic feature phone and don’t care too much about its looks, there are cheaper options out there with the same or better specifications.
