A major shift has recently reshaped the UK’s mobile landscape. As of 31st May 2025, Vodafone UK and Three UK have officially joined forces in a £16 billion merger, setting the stage for a transformative decade in telecoms.
Initially unveiled in June 2023 and approved by regulators in December 2024, the agreement grants Vodafone Group a 51% controlling stake, while CK Hutchison, Three UK’s parent company. retains 49%.
The newly merged company has ambitious plans. Over the next ten years, it’s pledging £11 billion in investment to accelerate 5G rollout, enhance coverage, and deliver faster, more reliable mobile broadband through next-gen 5G Standalone technology.
More than just a business deal, this is a strategic effort to build a stronger challenger to long-established rivals like EE and O2, while also improving mobile access in underserved parts of the country.
