Samsung Galaxy S10 – handset focus

When Samsung introduced the S10, the latest edition of their flagship smartphone, earlier this year; they didn’t come up with just one option, nor 2, but 3 versions of it! The S10e, S10 and S10+. The S10e is basically a cut down version of the S10, whilst the S10+ is a bigger version of the S10, with a few more features. So, for this handset focus, we are going to look a little more at the middle of the range S10.

Fantastic screen

Rather than a big leap forward, the S10 is an iterative improvement on the very successful S9 with regard to looks. This makes it a very attractive phone with 6.1 in Dynamic AMOLED Quad HD+ display. Samsung has taken a different line to Apple’s notch, by punching a very neat round hole in the top right of the screen for the front facing camera to give a very small bezel all the way around the phone.

The notch at the top of the screen, pioneered by Apple, is very Marmite (you either love it or hate it). Personally, I don’t like it and while other manufacturers, such as Huawei, have opted for a very neat teardrop notch, I think the S10 currently has the most attractive screen of any Smartphone on the market.

Triple camera array

The fingerprint scanner, which on the S9 models had been on the back, has now been moved to be in the display, delivering (so Samsung say) a better performance. Powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 9820 chip, coupled with 8GB of RAM, it is available with either 128Gb or 512GB of storage.

On the back, the triple camera array is mounted horizontally. This consists of a dual aperture 12-megapixel sensor, a 16-megapixel wide angle 123-degree lens and a 12- megapixel 2X zoom lens. This combination delivers great shots in almost any conditions.
