Although it was initially released way back in Jun 2016 (which is a long time in the smartphone world), the Cat S60 is still going strong today. Why? Because it was the world’s first smartphone with a thermal imaging camera as well as being water resistant at up to 5m for an hour.
So, if you work in construction or emergency services this rugged phone could be for you.
Sharp Thermal Images
The image from the FLIR Lepton thermal camera is combined with a regular 13MP lens into a single sharp picture that overcomes the blurry images of normal thermal imaging devices. You can video the resulting images and the S60 can also measure temperatures at up to 30m away in real time. In addition to this setup on the rear there is a 5MP selfie camera on the front.
One Tough Little Phone
Being MIL-STD-810G and IP68 dust/water compliant means that the S60 is one tough little phone. The MIL certification covers protection from salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock. In addition to this it is drop-proof up to a height of 1.8m.
The screen is protected by 1mm of Gorilla glass 4. While this does not sound much, but normal phones get only 0.4mm. So, a significant layer of extra protection and it works with gloves as well!
Pick up a bargain
Shipping with Android 6 means it is a little behind the times and at 4.7” its screen will mean you will struggle to watch a movie on it. But, let’s face it, this is not what it is built for – as its rugged looks underline, this phone is designed to be the toughest smartphone in the world.
Originally shipping at over £600, you can now pick one up for under £300, so if you need a thermal imaging camera in your work, the S60 is for you.
