Realme X2 Pro – 90Hz refresh screen and 5 cameras

Designed to sit firmly in what is now called the premium-mid range of smartphones, the X2 Pro is Realme’s latest flagship offering to try and capture western markets. It certainly comes well specified with a stand-out screen, good battery and five cameras. But, is it enough to make it stand out from the crowd?

With regard to design it has a glass front and back – both Gorilla glass 5 and an aluminum frame. So, looks pretty similar to most other phones these days.

AMOLED display with high refresh rate

Let’s start by looking at the screen. It is a good quality 6.5” AMOLED display, but where it differs from a lot of other phones is its 90Hz refresh rate, compared to the more normal 60. This is really noticeable when scrolling through text, giving a very fluid and smooth change. It comes with an under-screen fingerprint scanner and to avoid the problems encountered by other manufacturers, Realme has put their own screen protector on to ensure the scanner will still operate. Sadly, this makes the device feel cheaper and helps to reduce the overall premium feel it has.

Quad array rear camera

Next, the camera. The quad array rear setup consists of the main 64MP, f/1.8 wide lens, 13MP, f/2.5 telephoto, 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide and 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. The selfie camera is a 16MP, f/2.0 wide lens. This combination provides pretty good shots in a range of scenarios/conditions but is not good for night shots.

Moving on, the Realme X2 Pro has a 4000 mAh battery that has 50W fast charging, giving a full charge in just over half an hour. It is powered by a Snapdragon 855+ with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM. You cannot expand the memory, but there are 128GB and 256GB models available with 8GB and 12GB of RAM respectively.

Decent price

It comes equipped with decent quality stereo speakers and 3.5mm headphone jack and supports Dolby Atmos. So, will provide a good sound if you use your phone to listen to music.

For around the £350 mark you get a lot for your money and it is available in white, blue, red or gray giving you  good choice of colour options for a nice looking phone. There are now plenty of options available for around this price point, like the Oppo Reno 2, so you have a lot of choice if you have a budget above £300.
