Oppo Find X2 and X2 Pro – standing out from the crowd

The Oppo Find series set out to push the boundaries of technology. With the Find X2 series (not to be confused with the Realme X2) they have produced a flagship phone that is arguably capable of standing comparison with the best the like of Samsung, Huawei and Apple can offer. But it is not cheap, so to counter this Oppo have set out to make it stand out from the crowd.

Leather and ceramic backs

Like all flagship phones released in 2020 it is future-proofed by supporting 5G. But it is in the design that the Find X2 is different. The screen is a 6.7” AMOLED with a 90.9% screen to body ratio and it has a higher resolution of 1440p and a 513ppi density.

It also has the latest must-have for 2020, a 120Hz refresh rate coupled with 800 nits max brightness. This will give you super smooth scrolling and great visibility when you are outside in sunlight. With AI adaptive eye protection, the phone automatically chooses the optimum colour, temperature and brightness for your surroundings, keeping your eyes feeling comfortable.

The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 6, but it is the back that is different. You can get it with a standard glass back as well as a laser-cut ceramic one that looks like a swirly fingerprint when you get up close. This texture makes it less slippery in your hand and hopefully will also reduce fingerprint smudges!

If you choose to upgrade to the Pro, you also get the choice of eco-friendly microfibre Vegan leather. This is available in only one colour, a quite striking orange. So, you will really stand out from the crowd with that model! Weighing in at 217g the phone feels high quality and looks great and as a final bonus is IP68 certified for water and dust protection.

Fully charged battery in 38 mins!

Let’s have a look at what’s inside now. Naturally, it is driven by the class-leading Snapdragon 865 processor with an Adreno 650 GPU. It is available with 8 or 12GB of RAM (Find X2) and 12GB for the Pro. Storage is 128 or 256GB for the X2 and 256 or 512GB for the Pro. With both models, storage is sadly non-expandable.

On the sound front there are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, but no headphone jack. Access to the phone can be controlled by a fast-acting under-screen fingerprint scanner. Finally inside, everything is powered by a 4200 mAh battery (4260 on the Pro) with an incredible 65W fast charging capability. This claims to go from 0 to 100% charge in only 38 minutes!

Telescope lens

Moving onto the cameras, and this is the one area where the X2 and the Pro are different. Both have a triple rear array arranged in a black frame vertically on the left. Starting with the X2 this has a 48MP f/1.7 wide, 13MP f/2.4 optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide. The Pro has a 48MP f/1.7 wide, a 13MP f/3.0 periscope telephoto with 10X hybrid zoom & up to 60X digital zoom and finally a 48MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens to complete. The first 2 lenses on both models have OIS.

Naturally, such a setup takes great pictures in daylight. For night time there is Night Mode that ensures good sharp shots in poor light conditions. Finally for selfies, there is a 32MP f/2.4 wide lens positioned on the top left of the screen in a discrete pinhole.

Cheaper than the S20

The X2 is available in 2 colours – Black (ceramic) and Ocean (Glass). While the Pro has 4 options – Black (ceramic), Orange (Leather), Grey (Leather) and Lamborghini edition (not sure what colour that is, but guessing Red or Yellow).

You can pick up the Pro now for around £950 and the X2 for £780, so slightly cheaper than the S20 and the S20 Ultra. If you are looking for a premium phone that is just that little bit different and want to save a few pounds the Oppo Find X2 Pro might be well worth a look.
