Nokia 2.3 – upgrade that focuses on the important things

Nokia has continued to upgrade and improve its smartphones right across the range. Released in December 2019, only 6 months after the C2, the C3 focuses on the 3 main factors of a smartphone: screen, cameras and battery.

The screen, although still an LCD one is now HD and has been enlarged past the 6” mark to 6.2” and with a corresponding higher (80.7%) screen to body ratio. Still retaining its lower 720p resolution, the PPI has reduced slightly to 271 because of the larger screen.

Bigger battery, Android 10 and Face Unlock

Inside the CPU is still the same Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22, but now it has 2GB of RAM with 32GB of expandable storage. The version of Android One is based on Android Pie (9),  but this is now upgradeable to Android 10 and all its extra features straight out of the box. The 2.3 is also equipped with a dedicated Google Assistant button, so you can gain immediate access.

On the sound front, there is a single speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio software included. The battery has been enlarged to a 4000 mAh non-removable one that should last you 2 days.

Finally, surprisingly for a phone in the under £100 sector, the 2.3 comes with Face Unlock. This means you need never be frustrated by a forgotten password again. Biometric face recognition unlocks your phone by just holding it up to your face.

Dual cameras with AI imaging software

The camera on the 2.3 has been upgraded to a dual array with the main 13MP f/2.2 with autofocus of the 2.2 now enhanced by a 2MP depth sensor and AI imaging software. This gives the 2.3 the camera capabilities of a more expensive handset and with the new 'Recommended Shot' feature, you will always be able to get the perfect image. The 2 lenses are positioned vertically in a central black surround above the LED flash and will also shoot 1080p video at 30fps.

On the front there is a 5MP selfie snapper positioned centrally in a teardrop notch.

Worthy upgrade to the Nokia 2.2

Available in Cyan Green, Sand and Charcoal, the 2.3, by focusing on the important things in a smartphone (screen, camera and battery), is a worthy upgrade to the 2.2. It is well worth considering if you want a stylish smartphone with decent specs from a recognised brand and don’t want to spend too much getting it.
